In July 2011, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation launched a project assessing the Japanese-U.S. response to the Fukushima nuclear crisis. At an event hosted by Carnegie, two leaders of the project, Nobumasa Akiyama and Heigo Sato, presented their findings.

March 10, 2009, Sasakawa USA hosted a program focusing on Japan's Grand Strategy.  The need for a vision that would help it to navigate the difficulties that it might face over the coming decades. In developing such a strategy, Japan would need to focus on its traditional strengths—it’s ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a well-calculated manner with a steadfast commitment to self strengthening— while embracing changing global ideas and forces. This seminar comes out of a U.S.-Japan Foundation-funded project on this topic.
