On March 5th 2020, Sasakawa USA welcomed our Distinguished Senior Fellow (Non-Resident) Ambassador James Zumwalt to deliver an insider’s view of the U.S. government’s civilian response to Japan’s 2011 Triple Disaster. On March 11, 2011, Ambassador Zumwalt was serving as the Deputy Chief of Mission for the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo when the earthquake and tsunami struck the seabed off Japan’s northeast coast. His presentation focused on his personal experience of the disaster and lessons learned that are still appropriate today.
