Japan is trying to reinvent itself at a major technology exporter, with energy as a key component of its role in mitigating global climate change, and is looking for U.S. help in achieving this goal by making overtures to the United States as a market for its manufacturing and technology. At the same time, the country is seeking more liquefied natural gas exports from the U.S.
