Sasakawa USA hosted an off-the-record policy lunch discussion with Ambassador Matt Matthews, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs and Ambassador for APEC. Sasakawa USA CEO Ambassador James Zumwalt served as moderator. The United States and Japan reaffirmed the strength of their bilateral relationship at two high-level summits in Asia in late November: The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit and the East Asia Summit (EAS). On December 2, the House Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific held a hearing assessing U.S. Strategic Interests related to those summits, both of which were attended by President Barack Obama.
