U.S., Japan both grappling with history issues

Both the U.S. and Japan continue to face contentious history issues, Christopher Nelson, Sasakawa USA’s Fellow for U.S.-Asia Relations was quoted as saying in an opinion piece by Temple University’s Jeff Kingston published in the Japan Times.

Kingston, the director of Asian Studies at Temple University Japan, included comments from Nelson, who also is editor of The Nelson Report.

Nelson notes in the article that “‘Deniers’ are universal, especially if a cherished national myth is imperiled by the truth.”
