Economic growth—and in particular, China’s economic growth—has attracted Europe to the Indo-Pacific for centuries. Whereas the Indo-Pacific’s geopolitics have been a primary concern for the United States and Japan during much of this time, the same could not be said of Europe until recently. In the wake of China’s more aggressive “wolf warrior” diplomacy, COVID-19, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Europe has altered its close ties with China amid concerns over peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. With this new book, Sasakawa USA highlights Europe’s changing perspectives towards the Indo-Pacific, along with increased opportunities for allies to partner together in the region.

Europe’s Evolving Strategic Vision for the Indo-Pacific: Nine Perspectives is a comprehensive and insightful look at practical steps Europe can take for meaningful contributions to the Indo-Pacific region, in addition to building an integrated Atlantic-Pacific future.
