Hon. Miki Yamada Joins Sasakawa USA as a Distinguished Senior Fellow (Non-Resident)

WASHINGTON, DC – Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA (Sasakawa USA), a leading U.S.-Japan think tank, has named Hon. Miki Yamada a distinguished senior fellow (non-resident).

Hon. Yamada was a member of the House of Representatives, Japan, as well as Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP) Tokyo Daiichi Election District branch chief until October 2024. She joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in 1996 before receiving her MBA from Columbia University in 2002 and going on to work in the Office of the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary. In 2005, Hon. Yamada joined the Boston Consulting Group, where she worked on domestic and international projects, including healthcare-related projects. Hon. Yamada then joined Hermes Japon in 2007, where she was involved in sales planning. Hon. Yamada was elected for the first time to the House of Representatives from Tokyo’s 1st District (Chiyoda, Minato, and Shinjuku Wards) in the 46th election in 2012. Since then, she was elected for four consecutive terms. Additionally, Hon. Yamada has served as parliamentary vice-minister for Foreign Affairs and vice-minister for the Environment among other posts.

Sasakawa USA most recently engaged with Hon. Yamada in her previous capacity as the chief secretary of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Parliamentarians’ Network Japan during the Sasakawa USA Emerging Experts Delegation (SEED) program on Strengthening Disaster Risk Reduction through Women, Peace and Security; and at a Sasakawa USA Women’s Advancement Network (SWAN) roundtable on insights from the Parliamentarians’ Network and the progress that has been made in Japan to advance the implementation of WPS. Hon. Yamada also traveled to Washington, DC, as a member of Sasakawa USA’s U.S.-Japan Integrated Security Dialogue (ISD) delegation. Sasakawa USA is delighted to work with Hon. Yamada on economic security and Women, Peace and Security.
