The key message I heard was that Prime Minister Abe is challenging Japan to reconsider its identity and role in the world. From what I could tell, Japanese society is intrigued by this challenge but not altogether convinced of the right path. It will be fascinating to watch Japan conduct this soul-searching and I especially look forward to the Olympics as a key milestone in this journey.
