On October 25, 2018, Sasakawa USA hosted the Honorable Sharon Burke, Senior Advisor and Director of the Research Security Program at New America, at a luncheon to discuss her recently published paper "Strength Through Peace: Japan in the 21st Century Competitive Sphere." The luncheon was held as part of Sasakawa USA’s Alumni Program and the paper is a culmination of Burke’s research from her travels to Japan in February 2018 for Sasakawa USA’s In-Depth Alumni Research Trip.

Congressional Alumni Reception

On August 30, 2018, as part of Sasakawa USA’s Alumni Program, Sasakawa USA partnered with the U.S. Association for Former Members of Congress – Congressional Study Group on Japan (FMC – CSGJ) to host 19 of our congressional alumni for a reception at Kaz Sushi Bistro. Alumni who joined us were former participants of CSGJ’s delegations to Japan and Weekend Asia Retreats in Baltimore or East West Center in Washington’s Congressional Program on Asia (CSPA), which are all sponsored by Sasakawa USA.

Report from Sasakawa USA’s Journalism Fellowship: Fukushima and the 2020 Olympics

Sasakawa USA hosted Seth Berkman, contributing sports reporter at The New York Times, for a luncheon titled "Report from Sasakawa USA’s Journalism Fellowship: Fukushima and the 2020 Olympics." Berkman was the 2017 recipient of the Sasakawa USA Journalism Fellowship, offered in partnership with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ). Nearing the two-year mark before the opening of the games, the luncheon kicked off Sasakawa USA's discussion on the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, and served as an opportunity to learn about Berkman’s experience reporting in Japan.
