What’s New about Prime Minister Abe’s Security Agenda

On September 26, 2013, Sasakawa USA welcomed Dr. Yoshihide Soeya for a private, off-the-record discussion on the Abe administration’s latest security agenda.

About the Speaker

Dr. Yoshihide Soeya, Professor of Political Science and International Relations and Director of the Institute of East Asian Studies at Keio University, came to discuss Prime Minister Abe’s security policy and the first integrated foreign and security strategy in modern Japan. Currently a Japan Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Dr. Soeya is a member of the Advisory Group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Council of the Asia Society in New York. He served in 2010 as a member of the “Council on Security and Defense Capabilities in the New Era” in the Prime Minister’s Office, and in 1999-2000 as a member of the “Prime Minister’s Commission on Japan’s Goals in the 21st Century.”
