From April 30 to May 5, Sasakawa USA welcomed the 2023 U.S.-Japan Integrated Security Dialogue Delegation (ISD) to Washington. The high-level parliamentary delegation consisting of six Japanese lawmakers and a policy expert was led by The Hon. Akira Amari, former Secretary-General of the LDP and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, who has been spearheading Japan’s efforts to bolster economic security strategy. The delegates had meetings with lawmakers, government officials, and policy experts to conduct in-depth discussions focused on the following: 1) share updates on new security concerns in the Indo-Pacific considering the U.S.-Japan Security Alliance, 2) inform about political developments within Japan to strengthen security cooperation, and 3) discuss and strengthen integrated security coordination between the U.S. and Japan to meet global and regional security challenges. The delegates also visited the U.S. Naval Academy to exchange views with Japan Maritime Self Defense instructors and Midshipmen.
