Challenges in Building an Islamic Plural Society

On November 15, 2012, Sasakawa USA welcomed Dr. Siti Syamsiyatun and Dr. Dicky Sofjan for a private, off-the-record discussion on the issues and challenges facing Indonesia as it develops a plural society in the world’s largest Muslim country.

About the Speakers

the-challenge-of-building-an-islamic-plural-2-150x150Specializing in gender and Islam, Dr. Siti Syamsiyatun is the ICRS director from the State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga. Dr. Syamsiyatun has been actively involved in Muhamadiyah, the second largest Muslim organization in Indonesia.

 

 

 

Dr. Dicky Sthe challenge of building an islamic plural 1ofjan is an ICRS core doctoral faculty member, trained in political science, international relations and public policy. His main research interest revolves around religion and politics in Indonesia, Malaysia and Iran. Dr. Sofjan is part of the Asian Public Intellectuals (API) network encompassing Southeast Asia and Japan.
