Rising Indo-Pacific Security Experts (RISE) Meet with Minister Motosada Matano

On April 19, Sasakawa USA welcomed Minister Motosada Matano, head of political affairs at the Embassy of Japan in the United States of America, to speak at a Rising Indo-Pacific Security Experts (RISE) event on “An Updated Outlook on Japan’s Security Policy.” The discussion took place at the Old Ambassador’s Residence at the Embassy of Japan, with the support of the Political Section at the Embassy of Japan, and was moderated by Dr. Satohiro Akimoto, chairman and president of Sasakawa USA.

Minister Matano discussed Japan’s current security and defense policies, Japan’s national defense, the U.S.-Japan alliance, and recent developments in the international security landscape, including opportunities for Japan to take the lead on cooperation with partners through its 2023 G7 Chairmanship. Minister Matano’s remarks were followed by an engaging discussion with RISE attendees, who included graduate students, think tanks members, and employees from several government organizations.
