Report Launch: Seeds of Resilience: Lessons from Japan on Human-Centered Paths to Disaster Recovery

April 16, 2026 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm

On April 16, Sasakawa USA hosted a report launch of Seeds of Resilience: Lessons from Japan on Human-Centered Paths to Disaster Recovery, featuring authors Dr. Regardt Ferreira, Director, and Mr. Corey Eide, Senior Fellow, Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy, Tulane University; and Ms. Shanti Shoji, Director of Programs, Sasakawa USA.

The speakers shared insights from the joint report produced by the delegation of four experts in resilience and community-building who traveled to Tokyo and the Noto Peninsula in June 2025 through Sasakawa USA’s U.S.-Japan Research Exchange program. Throughout their presentation, they highlighted the “Seeds of Resilience” they observed during their field study in Japan, and explored how these seeds can be translated universally to inform more inclusive and sustainable approaches to strengthening resilience in communities in Japan, the United States, and beyond. The presentation was followed by a robust discussion with the audience, which included members of the policy community in Washington, DC, with expertise spanning disaster recovery and U.S.-Japan relations.
