On August 9, 2013, Sasakawa USA welcomed Mr. Kiyoshi Serizawa for a private, off-the-record discussion on the Defense Posture Review Interim Report, a prelude to the new National Defense Program Guidelines, and its implications for the U.S.-Japan alliance.
Kiyoshi Serizawa is one of the principal authors of the recently-released Defense Posture Review Interim Report, a prelude to the new National Defense Program Guidelines slated to be issued at the end of 2013. Serizawa came to Sasakawa USA to discuss the interim report and implications for the U.S.-Japan alliance.
Serizawa began his career in the Japan Defense Agency (JDA) in 1986 and has held a series of significant posts in JDA and its successor, the Ministry of Defense (MOD), as well as other governmental agencies, since 1986. Among other positions, he has served as Director of the Arms Control and Disarmament Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director of the Japan-U.S. Defense Cooperation Division at the MOD and Counselor for National Security in the Cabinet Secretariat. He is a graduate of the University of Tokyo and attended the British Royal College of Defence Studies.
