China’s Infrastructure Development in the Indo-Pacific Region

On August 22, 2019, Sasakawa USA welcomed Dr. Shino Watanabe, Professor at the Faculty of Global Studies at Sophia University in Tokyo, for a private, off-the-record luncheon discussion on China’s Infrastructure Development in the Indo-Pacific Region. Dr. Watanabe, a China expert from Japan, shared her research findings from her working paper “China’s Infrastructure Development in the Indo-Pacific Region: Challenges and Opportunities” and her field research in Southeast Asia for a small group of experts on Asia and development assistance including Sasakawa USA’s program alumni.

Ms. Yun Sun, Senior Fellow and Co-Director of the East Asia Program & Director of the China Program at the Stimson Center, moderated the discussion and facilitated the Q&A.
