On January 31, 2014, Sasakawa USA welcomed Dr. Koichi Hamada for a private, off-the-record discussion on the first year of Abenomics and what can be expected in economic landscape for 2014.
Koichi Hamada, perhaps best known as the father of Abenomics, has been Professor Emeritus at Yale University and the University of Tokyo as well as Special Economic Advisor to Prime Minister Abe.
Hamada came to Sasakawa USA for a discussion on the first year of Abenomics and what can be expected in 2014. Hamada has had a distinguished career serving as the President of the Japanese Association of Economics and Econometrics (now the Japan Economic Association) from 1994 to 1995 and the founding President of the Japan Law and Economics Association in 2003. He has participated in a number policy committees at the Ministry of Finance, METI, the Economic Planning Agency and other ministries, and has been a key advisor to the IMF Board of Directors, the WTO and Japan’s Cabinet Office and Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy. In 2006, he was awarded the imperial decoration, the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Star, which is given to those who have accumulated distinguished achievements for Japan.
